Engagement Party

This past weekend was my engagement party, and boy was it fun! My fiancee's family flew out from Texas and my sister flew in from Portland, as well as our bridal party and my family who drove in. I wanted to share the flowers and vases that we did as decorations along with the "Meet the Maids" and "Meet the Men" tables.

First, I went to Michael's and got some plan picture frames that were on sale for a buck a piece. I then got the first letter of each name of the ladies and gents in our bridal party. I painted it all myself using martha stewart paint and I think they turned out great! I then had each lady and guy send me a picture that I printed out and put in the frame. I did a separate meet the maids table that had fabric swatches and a whole packet of information which you can find in my post here.

Next, I went back to Michael's during their vase sale and got 8 vases. 4 of them are the ones you see that have the lemon slices in them, and 4 of them are smaller and fit inside that hold the flowers, because putting flowers in lemon water is not a good idea :)

I had some help slicing up the lemons, and they ended up being about a quarter inch thick or less for each slice. I cut each flower off of the bunch so that they were easier to position so the vases looked fuller. I did find this idea in pinterest :)

How To Coordinate Bridesmaid Dresses

All of my bridesmaids are the best women I could ask for, but unfortunately they are all located in different states! This makes shopping for dresses very difficult. I decided that I don't necessarily want each one of them to wear the exact same dress not only because it is hard to coordinate that with the distance, but each one of the ladies have their own personalities and body shapes so I'm sure they each would prefer different styles. So how do I get each one to have the same fabric/color/length/etc?

I created these simple handout packages that have fabric swatches with the color and length on them along with a few styles of dresses that I really like and think would look great on the ladies. I also put that the color can vary within 3 shades since finding the EXACT match is nearly impossible, unless you buy a dress from the store that the fabric swatch came from (which I included that information as well). The bridal boutique that I bought my dress at offers a 15% discount on bridesmaid dresses so naturally I put that information onto one of the handouts as well. The boutique offers shipping so my ladies can order their dress at a discount and have it shipped directly to them. I did this when I was a bridesmaid and would have worked out except that bridal boutique (different than mine) scammed me and didn't actually ship the dress. Luckily the bride picked it up for me, which is also a possibility for my wedding.

I also included a printout of the contact information for all of the bridal party and the parents of the bride and groom and a separate handout for our wedding website and registry information. These will only go to the bridal party and the parents of the bride and groom.

I started with our wedding colors and painted some clothes pins in the orange that we are using. Then I sparkled them up and tied some turquoise twine to them. I know my bows can use some help :)

Then I created the handouts and attached the color swatches to them.

Put them all together and use the clothes pin to hold all the different handouts together and voila!

The result is a simple package for each bridesmaid that is cute and matches the theme of the wedding. Easy way to coordinate with the distance.

Baby Bear Beanie

I knit my very first baby bear beanie! The size is a little off from the instructions, I didn't have the exact yarn and I got a little overzealous when knitting the body heh. But overall I love how it looks and hopefully the mommy-to-be loves it too!

Bear Beanie
X
The instructions are very clear, I just was silly and didn't guage the yarn prior to beginning the bear beanie. It will still work, for a toddler or older child, not quite for a newborn. The yarn I used is Jojoland brand, Fantasia. It's 100% Wool Superwash. I skein of this was more than plenty and there is a little bit left over for a headband or something smaller.

What do you all think?

This will be available soon in my etsy store, and also here if anyone wants to request it. Just shoot me an email and let me know the color and how old the person is that the beanie is for and I can make one in a jiff!

Etsy Art!

Hello Bloggy Buddies!

In case I haven't mentioned it, I recently bought a house! It is currently being built and while I'm waiting (rather impatiently) I have been looking at art to decorate my house with! I've found some really great artists on Etsy and am planning on purchasing at least one of these, I just have to make up my mind on which one!

And my current favorite:

And also some shameless self promotion...I made my first pair of fingerless gloves :)

Crafts and a Doggy!

Just a short post with some more clothes pin magnets that I made, only with these I used a clear coat on top so the sparkles don't get EVERYWHERE! It works like a charm and the sparkles are still just as sparkley.

In other news, we adopted a 1 year old Miniature Pincher/Chihuahua mix! It was our gift to ourselves for our 3 year anniversary. She is so awesome and has transitioned into our family so smoothly. The only apprehensive one is Chainsaw, our humungous cat, who outweighs her by 5 pounds. The two kittens love her (Hershey) to pieces already and it's only been a week! Chainsaw is slowly coming around, and I have no doubts that with a little more time and a lot more loving he will love Hershey too :)

Please take me home! - As soon as she looked at Jeremy with this face, it was all over. We were not leaving without her!
I took her to the vet for a check up to make sure she was in good health and it turns out she has kennel cough and has to be on antibiotics for 2 weeks. AND the shelter we adopted her from did not give her the parvo shots (weird right?) so we can't even take her for walks yet, and she can't get her shots until her kennel cough clears up :( She's being a good sport about but she has a lot of energy that needs to be spent. Lucky for us she has only chewed up the toys we've given her but she's been eyeing a pillow that I made for Jeremy haha!

Chainsaw is not so sure about this new creature.
Jeremy is so cute with Hershey. He wanted a big manly dog, but Hershey has just melted him! "how is she?" "has she eaten today" "did she get her medicine" "how did she do at the vet". It's cute, and makes me love him even more!
We brought her home and she is so cuddly!

We also got lucky in that she was already potty trained so she hasn't had any accidents in the house. Part of that is because we take her out every hour or two just to be safe. but she lets us know if she needs to go. We have a pet door for the kitties to come and go as they please but Hershey doesn't quite get the concept yet, so she'll sit in front of the door waiting for us if she needs to go. We've tried showing her how to go in and out of the flap but we think wherever she was before us didn't have that and she had to wait by the door. Hopefully we can train her to use the flap so that when we aren't home she doesn't try to hold it.

Tomorrow will be her first trip to my parents house, which is out in the country. She's going to have a blast being able to run around in their huge yard. I can't wait to see how my dad reacts to her. I know she'll win him over :)

Hershey is such a pretty girl!

Knit Lace Headband

This past week I was in Southern California for a work event and didn't get a whole lot of knitting done while I was there. Work plus homework took over the entire week! I finally got home on Friday night and yesterday did a whole days worth of knitting. I finished the beanie that I was knitting, made a headband, a bow, and a bracelet! The beanie is for my friend Jenna for her birthday that recently passed so I'll get some pictures up when I give it to her (don't want to spoil it!). The bow I'm not sure what I'm going to do with yet so any ideas would be great!

I haven't decided if I want to post the bracelet to Etsy or not just yet, it's cute but it's just a slip on so I think I should make another and make it adjustable with the button.

More Clothes Pin Magnets!

I did get some craft time in but between homework and making some nametags for a work event it wasn't enough (never is right)! Once the nametags are all finished I'll post those too and post a how to make them (so far they are easy but the hard part is coming up).

I love making the clothes pin magnets because they are easy to do and look so great! Plus I really enjoy hand painting them, another theraputic activity for me ha! This set was made partly for St. Patrick's Day and partly for Easter. More will be made for more easter colors like yellow and blue but I only had time to make the pink, purple, and green this weekend. The green ones are my fav! My cat Chainsaw liked watching me make these so much that he rolled in the glitter I was using. He is still sparkley!

Busy Week!

I wish I had something cool and entertaining to post but this week has just been a blur! Work was busy, school was busy, and I was just busy. No time to really knit or do crafty things, which is my release at the end of each day so tomorrow I will be crafting away and will hopefully have some fun things to post. I am testing a knitting beanie pattern for a lovely Etsy knitter PetalKnits so as long as she gives me permission to show off the beanie when it's finished I will post it. I hope I do her pattern justice! I've gotten about an inch done and it's looking pretty darn awesome so far.

Happy friday blogger land and I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. Sara out!

Cable Knit Bracelet and Necklace

I've been obsessed with the cable knit recently and this weekend in between homework and cleaning I managed to knit two bracelets and a necklace with the cable look. The necklace originally started out as a headband but as I kept knitting I kept liking the necklace look more and more. The yarn I used really looks great against any color shirt, plus I have enough left over to make a matching headband yet! I got the pattern for the cable knit here at NaomiChaney and just adapted it to work for me. I changed up the button hole a little bit too since the buttons I use are a bit small and slide through the hole that is knit with the pattern. So without further ado here are my most recent knitting creations!

Awesome Blog Posts of the Week!

I haven't done this in a long long long long time and for that I apologize! I have missed some great blog posts and you have too. I could make excuses that I've been busy and yada yada yada but truth is, I've just been lazy when it comes to blogging. No promises that I'll be able to keep this post up forever but I will certainly do better!

Feather Fascinators - Hair Pins

I saw these online somewhere and decided to try my hand at creating some awesome fascinators. I think I did a pretty good job and hopefully someone else does too :) These are very easy to make and turn out looking gorgeous! The only downside is that the feathers, for good quality feathers at least, they are fairly pricey. But boy can you tell the crap quality ones compared to the nice quality. What do you all think? I especially love the white feathers with the shamrock for St. Patrick's Day. The green against the white feathers looks so pretty!

Don't forget to check these out on my Etsy Store - SaraMarieCreations!

Heart Magnets

I just finished some awesome heart magnets today. They are gorgeous, if I do say so myself, and they weren't that hard to make. I was sick today and rather than just sitting on the couch watching movies I painted, sparkled, AND watched movies, all while feeling sorry for myself for feeling so icky. So without further adiu, here they are! Clicking on each image will take you to the Etsy page <3

And as always you can find these on Etsy at SaraMarie Creations :)

Refrigerator Magnets

I just finished a few refrigerator magnets that I have posted on my Etsy store.

These are so fun to make and are great to personalize for any occasion. I love them and my fridge is going to run out of room because I have so many now ha!

There are so many color combinations that I want to do but just ran out of time today. I think these are still very awesome :)
